Minister of Agriculture from Haiti visits Canada

February 2010.- The Minister of Agriculture from Haiti, Mr. Joanas Gue, visited Ottawa and Montreal, Canada on February 19-20 to endorse his project (version française, cliquez ici) to authorities of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and IICA Canada’s partners, on the Program to Provide Emergency Support for Food Production In Haiti in response to the Hurricanes of 2008, the Earthquake of January 12, 2010 and for the Integration of Displaced Populations. Also, the Minister briefly reported on his meetings during the previous days in Rome with a number of UN agencies including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP). During his visit, the Minister was interviewed by the press.

New Director General
January 2010.-The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture has a new elected, Director General, Dr. Victor M. Villalobos. IICA Canada would like to wish him success on his new term.

IICA Representative in Canada, Dr. Michael Bedoya, participated in the 6th. Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas in Ottawa. He delivered to the members of the working group on Food Security a presentation on the IICA’s strategy on Food Security.

A delegation from Haiti came to Canada last week to finalize a project proposal on agriculture credit and insurances which will be submitted to international funding agencies in October 2009. More information to come soon.
